Words.

“Stick and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

Bullshit.

Sticks and stones break skin, but

Words can break the heart and soul.

It’s as easy as a wrong step on the sidewalk with a slight pain that vanishes, but

Words can linger.

A forgotten wrong step versus an everlasting phrase.

Words are more than sounds.

They are vessels to communicate and connect,

They are vessels to deflect and debate,

They are vessels to express and explain.

The thing is..

Words CAN hurt me. And you.

They have that power and that is okay.

How beautiful is it that words can make us break at the seams and make us leak uncontrollably?

How beautiful that words can make us want to yell and scream?

How one phrase can change our life or change our mindset like…

“I hate you.”

“You are glowing goddess.”

“Please forgive me.”

“I love you.”

Words can morph and shift from delicate green vines to hot metal chains.

Yes, a stone can become a castle or a mountain, but

A word can nestle in the mind and turn everything into darkness

And it can turn everything into sunlit path.

That is the power of word.

We say words should never hurt us, but they do.

Words are not only meant to inspire,

They are also meant to sadden, but

The beauty of that is..

For every word than saddens there is a word that brightens.

The beauty of emotions is that they are meant to go in one way and then the other.

It’s a spectrum of feeling that is charged by words.

So, instead..

We should say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will always break and inspire me.”
